Saying yes to a commercial partnership is relatively easy.
Sometimes, saying no is more important.
At Move iQ, we’re deliberately selective about the brands we work with. Not because there aren’t plenty of businesses we’d happily have a conversation with, but because every partnership has to make sense for our audience as well as for us and the brand involved.
We’ve spent years building a relationship with consumers around property and the home.
That relationship relies on trust, and trust has a value.
Your audience notices who you work with
When you’ve built an audience, you’re not simply offering a brand access to numbers.
You’re effectively introducing that brand to people who have chosen to watch, read or listen to your content.
We take that responsibility seriously.
If a partnership feels disconnected from what our audience is interested in, or if we can’t see a credible reason for that brand to be part of the conversation, it probably isn’t right for Move iQ.
The commercial opportunity alone isn’t enough. There has to be relevance.
A sponsor shouldn’t feel squeezed into the content
We’ve all seen partnerships where a sponsor feels as though they’ve been added because there was space for a logo or a commercial message.
Audiences can see it too.
The partnerships that work best are those where the connection feels obvious.
For example we create content supporting people buying a first home, and as such we work with a brand with genuine expertise that can really help that audience.
The same applies to renting, improving a home, energy efficiency, mortgages, legal issues, later-life moves, new homes and many other subjects we cover.
The starting point is always:
What will be useful or interesting to the consumer?
Then we look at where a partner can genuinely add something to that conversation.
That’s very different from starting with a product and trying to find somewhere to insert it.
Trust takes time to build and seconds to damage
There’s another reason we’re careful.
Audience trust isn’t something you can simply buy back if you lose it.
Consumers become familiar with the people and platforms they choose to follow. Over time, they develop an expectation about the type of information they’ll receive and the standards behind it.
If every piece of content suddenly becomes an opportunity to sell something, that relationship changes.
That doesn’t mean commercial partnerships are a problem.
Done well, they can make excellent content possible.
Brands can bring expertise, insight, access and investment that allow us to explore subjects in greater depth and create genuinely useful consumer resources.
But the commercial relationship should support the content – not overwhelm it.
The environment matters for brands too
There’s another side to this which is sometimes overlooked.
Brands should be selective about where they appear as well.
Reach matters. Views matter. Audience demographics matter.
But context matters too.
What else appears on that platform? Who is presenting the content? What does the audience expect from it? What other brands are associated with it? And does appearing there reinforce what your own business wants to stand for?
A brand appearing within trusted, relevant editorial content is in a very different environment from simply buying another advertising placement.
That’s particularly important in property and the home, where many consumer decisions involve significant money, emotion and trust.
It’s about fit, not simply size
We work with businesses of different sizes and from different parts of the property and home sectors.
The common denominator isn’t necessarily the size of the company or its marketing budget.
It’s whether there’s a good fit.
- Can we create something our audience will genuinely value?
- Does the brand have expertise worth sharing?
- Is there a natural connection with the subjects Move iQ talks about?
- Can we work together in a way that feels credible for everyone involved?
If the answer is yes, that’s where an interesting partnership can begin.
Sometimes saying no makes the yes more valuable
Being selective inevitably means turning opportunities down.
Commercially, that can occasionally feel counterintuitive.
But we believe protecting the relationship with our audience has to come first.
Because ultimately, that trust is also part of what our partners are accessing when they work with Move iQ.
We don’t want every brand on Move iQ. We want the right brands, in the right conversations, for the right reasons.
And when that alignment is there, a partnership can become much more interesting than simply putting a logo on a piece of content.
Could your brand be a good fit for Move iQ?
We work with carefully selected property, home and lifestyle brands across video, podcasts, educational content, sponsored series and wider media partnerships.
If you have expertise, products or services that could genuinely add value to our consumer audience, we’d be interested to hear what you have in mind.
